For those of you who didn't a;ready know this, I'm preparing to leave tomorrow for a substantial amount of time. I'm part of the Armed Services and will be flying to Iraq to serve my country for the next few months and will be leaving the rest of my staff in charge of running operations while I'm away.
I'm very thankful that I'm able to do this type of work and not worry about the site. I know its in good hands with all of you and hope that you'll continue to support it through your posts, your music, events and invites of your friends and family. The site has grown a great deal ever since we opened it up to the public not to long ago and I am encouraged to see it grow even more over the months ahead. We have our first major event coming up soon and Destined Star and Neek will be kicking that off over on the East Coast. I wish I could be there, I'm sure it'll be one for the books!
Mainly I wanted to put a couple quick things to note here before I finish packing up. For all of you who are fans of this business, this music and this movement. Don't just sit on the sidelines, be involved. Grab a mixtape or a album of a new artist and post a review if you think its good or even if you think its awful. Support the artists and promoters here on the site. Share you input, comments and suggestions. If you don't like an track or a album "say something," but make sure we're doing it to support the music and make it better. We're all here because we love this crazy, unique, multilayered art form and not all of us are going to agree about the details of the who, and the why but we all love it. If we work from there I think all criticism will come out constructive and the music will grow beyond the 2 dimensional garbage we all spend so much time complaining about.
Finally to all my Artists, Dancers, Promoters, Groups, and more. I appreciate all of you sharing your art and you passions here on this site. I am fortunate enough to have some of the hardest working people in the game right here on DG, but with that said I want you guys to use this site for ALL its worth. There are so many tools here that can help you promote and develop yourself and a lot of people aren't taking advantage. The staff are here to help you, the members are here to help you, but none of that will matter if you don't help yourself. Never be afraid to break out the box, take a chance and experiment but when you do make sure your putting you all in it. If you not giving 110% the fans will know it. Go to your pages right now, if your not sharing with your fans where your performing, how they can get your music RIGHT NOW if they wanted and you don't have a lot of comments on it then you know why. I urge you to dig down and take advantage. I want to see all of you rollin' in that Scooge McDuck money but it'll only happen if you put equal amounts of effort into your hustle and your skill. People will respect that even if they don't feel everything you put out, they'll know someone who will and they'll help you spread the word. Finally, never, ever wait on anyone else to help get your dream moving. You have no idea how many emails I get asking me to either "give" them a radio show or to "put them on" the one we have without so much as a song, a resume' basically a real reason to do so. I say that to say this, if you want anyone in this business to do anything for you, you have to prove yourself first. Do your research and don't just come looking to anyone whether it be an Agent, a DJ or us here at DG for a handout. We're a tool to help you promote yourself and learn how to promote yourself at the same time. Use it to your advantage, but this place is like any other professional music establishment. If you don't come correct you won't get far.
I know that's ridiculously long and not everyone will appreciate everything I'm saying but I do this for the love of the music and all of you who are a part of it. Thank you again for helping us make this movement matter. God Bless each and every one of you and I look forward to hitting you all up once I get out there and especially when I get home.
'Til then holla!
